Spend jumped 18% on Tuesday. Now someone has to open the deploy log and work out what shipped. Ask in Slack whether anyone changed an instance type. Check whether an incident on Monday night left something scaled up that nobody scaled back down. Look in Salesforce to see whether a big customer onboarded and this is simply what growth costs. Four different systems, none of which talk to the cost data, all to answer one question your dashboard raised and then declined to address.

So Tuesday’s 18% isn’t a mystery to go solve. It’s a spike with a release marker sitting directly underneath it, and the answer arrives at the same moment as the question.
The business events matter as much as the operational ones, and they’re the half most tooling ignores entirely. “Spend is up 30% this quarter” is alarming on its own and completely unremarkable next to the four enterprise customers who onboarded in the same window. Cost data without the business context behind it produces a lot of fire drills about numbers that were supposed to go up.

What Plutus doesn’t do
Plutus has read-only access to your infrastructure, and that’s a design decision rather than a gap we’re working toward. We don’t buy commitments on your behalf, we don’t shut down idle resources, and we don’t hold write credentials into your cloud accounts. A tool that watches your spend shouldn’t also be able to change it. If automated commitment purchasing is what you need, that’s a different product and you should buy one built for it.
